Opthamology

This network assists in providing a framework in which models of care can and have been developed within eye-care pathways (glaucoma and macular), where patients with long term ophthalmic conditions (risk stratified and stable) can and are being managed by their own primary care optometrists. ECHO supports this with educational governance, communication, and links to secondary care which are all required to ensure safe and effective care.

ECHO has been evidenced to facilitate this change in how and where care is provided supported by the demonopolisation of knowledge and expertise, the sharing of experience, tele-mentoring and peer-to-peer exchange. Over several years a well-developed community of practice promoting service transformation and excellence in clinical care has been formed, in order that patients can be access optimum care in the most appropriate setting.

This ECHO® network represents an important lever in delivering this partnership and supporting the transformation in care provision that is required at this time and in the future.

This network meets every other month.
