About this network
This network provides a framework in which models of care have been developed within eye-care pathways (glaucoma and macular), so that patients with long-term ophthalmic conditions who are risk-stratified and stable can be managed by their own primary care optometrists. ECHO supports this with the educational governance, communication and links to secondary care needed to ensure safe and effective care.
ECHO has been shown to support this change in how and where care is provided, by sharing knowledge and expertise, experience, tele-mentoring and peer-to-peer exchange. Over several years a well-developed community of practice has formed, promoting service transformation and excellence in clinical care so that patients can access the best care in the most appropriate setting.
