    Overview

    About this network

We welcome people from all areas of health, social care, government departments, councils, voluntary and community sector organisations, people with diverse experiences to join us and learn from each other.

The ECHO network is central to the delivery of the Promoting Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Action Plan 2026 – 2029 (linked to Actions 1 and 2 of the Mental Health Strategy). This action plan is focussed on promoting good mental health and emotional wellbeing and on preventing the onset of mental health problems or mental illness across the life course. The plan also recognises the need for strong partnership and action to address the wider determinants of mental health.

The aim of the network is to increase knowledge, share good practice, encourage collaboration and partnership in relation to public mental health.

    Network objectives

    • Increase practitioners’ competence and confidence in applying public mental health approaches through shared learning, practical skills, and improved understanding of key themes.
    • Create a collaborative, inclusive network that connects practitioners, values diverse perspectives, supports wellbeing, and enables sharing of resources, expertise and contacts.
    • Enable members to collectively shape policy and strategic decision making by amplifying frontline insight, promoting evidence informed approaches, and advocating for action on the social determinants of mental health.
    • Support members to develop their learning beyond the network through collaboration to increase the knowledge base.
    • Explore how we can improve practitioner wellbeing through discussion, peer support, and reflective space.
