    Overview

    About this network

Meaningful activity is vital to the health and wellbeing of residents. Supporting the delivery of meaningful activity in care homes is a key part of promoting residents’ health and wellbeing, and a key goal of the reform of adult social care services.

This network gives care home staff a place to share best practice and learn from each other through case studies, so that residents benefit from the shared learning within the community of practice. Strategically, it brings together a number of projects and workstreams across nursing and residential care homes.

    This network explores

    • Tools and resources to support communication skills, and activities which stimulate all residents
    • Strategies to help residents with cognitive impairment and communication difficulties share their emotions and connect – for example, Talking Mats
    • Alternative occupation and activities for residents who have limited opportunity for communal activities
    • Ways to promote the physical health, wellbeing, mobility and independence of all residents
    • Opportunities for residents to exercise appropriately to maintain mobility, appetite and digestion, and reduce the risk of deconditioning
